This was meant to be the story of me checking out some new hip hop at the annual NXNE festival. I trawled through the list of shows and picked out some performers that I really wanted to see. Unfortunately I was unable to make it out for the show that I wanted to go to. I am not going to let that stop me from sharing a couple of the acts I was looking forward to seeing. I am obviously getting old because when I was checking out what was on I found a lot of it unoriginal and lyrically uninspiring.
First up is New Orleans rapper Dee-1. I am surprised I have not heard of Dee-1 before, his 2010 video for Jay, 50 and Weezy has over 700k views so he is not doing too bad. On the first couple of songs I checked out he has an easy to listen to story telling style.
Dee-1 has a new mixtape dropping 23rd June.
Next is Calez from Chicago. I am not loving everything I have heard from Calez but his newer stuff is good. I’ll definitely be listening for new music from him.
