A Place To Bury Strangers – Strange Moon

A Place To Bury Strangers is a loud frickin’ band. If you go to one of their shows unprepared you will almost certainly lose your hearing for the next couple days after and likely suffer some sort of permanent damage. Frontman/guitarist Oliver Ackermann builds his own effects (and sells some of ’em through his Death By Audio company located in Brooklyn) and they vary from abrasive fuzz tones to mind-bending modulation to ear-splitting explosions. Their live shows are relentless assaults upon the senses. There’s often a strobe-light to complement the sickening amounts of noise. All in all, it’s pretty awesome.

“Strange Moon” is an album consisting completely of APTBS covering songs from west coast punk band Dead Moon. It was a special release for Record Store Day 2013. Dead Moon was a pretty furious band back in the day, but the APTBS versions are in a completely different league as they make the songs their own. The covers are noisy, messy pieces of audio graffiti.

Without a doubt, “Strange Moon” is a really cool release from a really cool band.
