West coast hip hop veterans Slimkid3 formerly of the Pharcyde and DJ Nu Mark of Jurassic 5 have teamed up for a couple of releases. The first release was an EP titled Another Day Another Dollar which can be downloaded for free from Slimkid3’s website. They also have a “full length” self titled album out on Delicious Vinyl. I put the full length in quotes because it’s not all that long but it is padded out by including the instrumentals.

After hearing about these two releases I went looking for some recent information on Slimkid3 aka Slimkid Tre. I found out that he and Fatlip, along with some of the producers of the first Pharcyde album, toured last year as Bizzare Ride. I have seen The Pharcyde live a couple of times and it always been a bit of a disappointment that Fatlip was not there so it’s good to know that he’s been back out there performing some of them old Pharcyde classics. I am not sure what the situation is between the four MC’s but it would be great if they were ever to work on an album together again.

With that out of the way this new release is nice. As a DJ, Nu Mark has a sample based production style that fits well with Tre’s soulful rap style. There are a lot of familiar sounds sampled but in a respectful and creative way. The album features guest vocals from Diamond D, J-Live, Murs and Del.
