HSY – S/T

HSY’s self-titled EP is a dissonant, grumbling mass of noise. The production values are on the lo-fi end of the spectrum and the howling, atonal vocals sound like they were recorded inside a tunnel. It’s a throwback sound. An uglier, meaner Jesus and Mary Chain. With a big stick.

Shoegazers will appreciate the waves of distortion and punks will dig the fury and aggression. With a running time just over 12 minutes, HSY will punch you in the mouth and leave footprints all over your face (as evidenced by the roaring, stomping second track “Slimeball”) It’s a shame it all ends so soon. I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled for more.
