Hurricane #1 – Rising Sign

Ride dissolved in 1996. Tensions within the band were high and the infamous “creative differences” monster reared its ugly head. Hurricane #1 was Andy Bell’s project afterward. They released their self-titled record in 1997 and its follow-up in 1999. The second single, Rising Sign sounds as if Oasis had tried to cover Ride’s epic eight-minute single Leave Them All Behind. Vocalist Alex Lowe’s voice bears a striking resemblance to Liam Gallagher’s.

The song rides a steady groove and a single riff throughout its duration with bits of noise and the occasional backwards guitar spliced in. It’s a good song, but doesn’t quite compare to the epic soundscapes that Ride was creating earlier in the decade.
