There’s an irony to Speedbump Sally‘s name. Slow, this band is not. Unfettered by road restrictions, this debut from the Gatineau scene veterans is a full-throttle ride through the punk rock landscape.
“Red Tape” kicks off the seven-song EP with aplomb and a big hook. The band’s three-vocalist-attack is on full display on tracks like “Trigger Happy” and “I’m No Plinko” with a steady diet of whoahs. “Bulletproof” with its back n’ forth vocal leads utilizes war imagery while sprinkling in samples of Gunnery Sergeant Hartman from the film Full Metal Jacket.
Also notable are the guitar heroics that tend to pop up at the end of songs without warning. These fireworks add elements of rock ‘n roll, classical and metal (more than a hint of Van Halen)
If you cut your teeth listening to Epitaph and Fat Wreck, you’ll want to add Speedbump Sally to your collection.
