Bilious – Thems The Breaks

Bilious came out swinging this past January with Thems The Breaks, the follow up to their 2023 debut EP Life is Greasy. It’s a five-song jaunt that lands somewhere between hillbilly punk and 80’s alt-metal.

Opening track “The Internet” kicks off with a sample of the Windows XP startup jingle before leaping into a scathing indictment of the ubiquitousness of online life. It’s brief, zippy and fun. “Zit” leans on a mid tempo riff as it takes sellout bands to task. “Lynch The System” calls for systemic change (and some recreational drug use). Requisite fishing song “By The Cast” extolls the virtues of the simple life.

Vocalist/bassist Andrew Bell has an earnest energy and channels his inner Les Claypool via clever rhyming couplets (to some excess). If you’re craving conscientious heavy music but prefer to keep things lite, look no further.

Thems The Breaks is available digitally.
