Uugghh – Freakosystem

Toronto two-piece Uugghh dropped their debut Freakosystem this past December and it’s a little bit of everything. The eight gooey tracks bounce fiendishly between noise-punk, grindcore and avant-garde black metal. As a collaboration between Katelyn Molgard (Bad Waitress) and Molly Lisabeth (Leona Hell), the duo use this side project as an excuse to do basically whatever.

Song structures are loose, there aren’t choruses as much as there are motifs. “Garbage Gnome” offers a la-la-la-la refrain that is echoed later on Molgard’s bass. “Gay Metal Faerie Goo Secretions” offers quiet/loud and pretty/ugly dynamics. “Tea Time”‘s stop-go dissonance will leave you gasping for air.

Unpredictable, challenging and delightfully messy, Freakosystem offers carnal thrills in an exciting lo-fi package.

Freakosystem is available digitally and on cassette.
