Fakers is the fourth release from Kingston trio Forty Seven Teeth. Warm, intimate, emo-lite. It’s an immediately likeable melody-driven album that brings the listener in close. Fronted by the sweet n salty twin-vocal attack of Anna Robertson (guitar) and Dee Prescott (bass), the songs come off like diary entries that we are fortunate to be privy to.
There’s a recurring theme of love and loss throughout the record. Optimistic tracks like album opener “Dealer’s Choice” and “Portland Flower” start things off on a hopeful note and “Punk Girl” is an endearing love letter. They’re mirrored by break-up songs “Dogs In The Park” and “I Dunno, Get Fucked”
It’s track closer “Fakers Gonna Fake” that stands out the most. Floaty and dreamy, it defies the bitterness simmering beneath before exploding into an extended and satisfying rave-up, complete with pounding drums and jilted guitars weaving in and out of tune. It’s a song of the year candidate and a terrific conclusion to this record.
Fakers is available on vinyl and digitally.
