Static is the first full-length from Montreal garage-rockers Taxi Girls and their first release with Stomp Records. Dripping with cool and a laissez-faire attitude, the thirteen tracks are upbeat and contain a kinetic energy that exceeds the sum of its parts.

The album is loaded with guilty pleasures: “Red Flag Crush” bemoans forbidden love, “Midnight Mixtape” dwells in nostalgia and didn’t-you-just-quit cigarette smoke (which might explain the hoarseness displayed on opener “Say It!”) Most infectious are the vocal harmonies that push standout tracks like “Auto-Hysterics” and “Try Harder”. Most fun of all, “Highs // Lows” is highlighted by B-52’s vibes and quirky synth-tones.

The production of Static feels akin to shopping at a vintage market. The pieces are familiar, recognizable from a bygone era but timeless just the same. With a few tasteful selections Taxi Girls have constructed something unmistakably stylish.
